Terms of Use

Last updated: 3 October 2026

1. About these terms

Cookbook (the "App") is a personal recipe and cookbook app provided by Cookbook Company ("we", "us", "our"). It is available as a mobile app and as a web app. These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Cookbook Company about your use of the App and of the online service it connects to.

By creating an account or using the App you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not create an account and do not use the App.

2. What the App does

The App lets you:

  • store and organise your recipes (ingredients, directions, description, nutrition and notes) in categories, and mark them as favorites, archive them or move them to the trash;
  • attach photos and videos to recipes, taken with your camera or picked from your gallery or files;
  • keep your own dictionaries of ingredients and measures, which the App also uses to turn the ingredients text of a recipe into a structured ingredient list;
  • start cooking timers from the directions of a recipe and be alerted when they finish;
  • chat with an AI assistant that can read your recipes and, after you confirm, change them;
  • keep "memories" (short notes the assistant takes into account) and custom instructions for the assistant;
  • see an audit log of the changes made in your account.

3. Your account

  • To use the App you need an account. You must give us a real name and an email address that you control, and confirm the address with the code we send you.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password secret and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else is using it.
  • An account can be shared by more than one person. Recipes and other content of a shared account are visible to, and can be changed by, everyone who belongs to that account.
  • You must be old enough to enter a binding agreement in your country, and in any case at least 16 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian.

4. Your content

Everything you add to the App (recipes, categories, dictionary entries, photos, videos, chat messages, memories, custom instructions) is "your content". You keep all rights you have in it.

You give Cookbook Company a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit, process and display your content only as far as needed to run the App for you. This includes sending the relevant parts of it to the AI service described in the Privacy Policy. The licence ends when your content is deleted, except for the short period it may remain in technical copies.

You confirm that you have the right to upload your content and that it does not infringe the rights of anyone else. Do not upload photos or videos of other people without their permission.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • break the law or use the App to store or share unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit or otherwise harmful content;
  • access or try to access another person's account or data, or the systems that run the App;
  • probe, scan or test the security of the service, or interfere with or overload it, for example with automated or excessive requests;
  • upload viruses or any code intended to damage or disrupt the service;
  • use the AI assistant to produce content that is illegal or harmful, or try to make it ignore its safety rules;
  • copy, resell, decompile or reverse engineer the App, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.

6. The AI assistant and automatic features

  • The AI assistant and the automatic parsing of ingredients are powered by a third-party AI model. Their output is generated automatically and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date.
  • Check quantities, unit conversions, nutrition information, cooking times and temperatures, and in particular allergen and food-safety information, yourself before you rely on them. The App does not give medical, dietary or other professional advice.
  • The assistant only makes changes to your data after you explicitly confirm each one. You are responsible for the changes you confirm.
  • Some assistant actions can be hard to undo (for example deleting a category or permanently deleting a recipe). Read the confirmation card before you accept it.

7. Timers and notifications

Cooking timers are a convenience. They are based on the clock of your device. In the mobile app the alert is a notification shown by your operating system; in the web app it is a pop-up and a sound in your browser, which only work while the page is open and the sound is not muted. Alerts can be late or missing, for example when notification permission is denied, the device or browser is in a power-saving or silent mode, or it is switched off. Never rely on a timer alone for your safety or for the safety of food or people.

Notification permission in the mobile app is optional. Without it the timers still work inside the App.

8. Deleting your content and your account

  • You can delete recipes and other content at any time. A deleted recipe first goes to the trash and stays there until you delete it permanently.
  • You can delete your account in the App (mobile or web) under Account > Delete account. You must enter your password to confirm. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is erased.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, puts the service or other users at risk, or if we are required to by law. Where reasonably possible we will tell you why.

9. Availability and changes to the App

We work to keep the App available but we do not promise that it will always be available, error free or free from data loss. We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop providing the App, with reasonable notice where possible. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The App is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we give no warranties other than those that cannot be excluded by law, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data or profit, or for any harm that results from relying on AI-generated output, timers or notifications.

Our total liability to you for any claim related to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Cookbook Company for the App in the 12 months before the claim and 50 euros (or the equivalent in your currency).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. The date at the top shows when they were last updated. If a change is material we will tell you in the App before it takes effect. If you keep using the App after the change, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not accept them, you can delete your account.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which Cookbook Company is established. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, and you may also bring a claim in the courts of that country.

13. Contact

If you have a question about these Terms, contact Cookbook Company using the support contact shown on the App's store page.
